from the artist's estate (the painting was an element of the inventory of the first room of the first floor in his house in Krems/Stein a. d. Donau, cf. General inventory of the estate after the death of Kremser Schmidt, 1801, city archive Krems);
1920 sale Dorotheum Vienna (as Anton Graff);
collection Oskar Bondy (died 1944 in New York City), Vienna;
confiscated in 1939 by the National Socialists and given to the museum of Krems;
restituted in 1947 to the widow of Oskar Bondy, Elisabeth Bondy;
purchased before 1951 by Carl-Anton Goëss-Saurau (1921–2015);
