More Informations

Cat. Nr. 344 - 409
The following objects come from the collection of a profound Viennese connoisseur of African art. They were collected over a period of more than 35 years and represent the collector's great interest especially in masks from Central and West Africa. Each object has an impeccable provenance and can be traced back to dealers and collectors from France or Belgium.
The works on offer date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries; they were all used by the respective tribes as part of a cult and only given away when their "potency" waned. Regular use created this unmistakable patina - and hence the radiance of these pieces.
