Gerhild Diesner, eine der wohl bekanntesten Künstlerinnen Tirols, wurde am 4. August 1915 in Innsbruck geboren. Ihren ersten Zeichenunterricht erhielt Diesner auf der Privatschule Beaupré in Genf. Nachdem sie die Schulausbildung abgeschlossen hatte, belegte sie einen zweijährigen Aktkurs bei Prof. Comploj und besuchte nebenbei eine Textilfachschule für Damen. Da Gerhild Diesner die Sommermonate stets bei ihrer Schwester in England verbrachte, entschloss sie sich schließlich im Alter von 20 Jahren dorthin zu ziehen, begann ihre Ausbildung an der Londoner Chelsea Art School und führte diese in Brighton an der School of Art unter Charles Knight fort. Nach etwa zwei Jahren übersiedelte Diesner nach München, wo sie an der Akademie für Angewandte Kunst, in der Abteilung für Gebrauchsgrafik, bei Ernst Dombrowski und Emil Preetorius lernte. In den ersten Kriegsjahren ging Gerhild Diesner zurück in ihre Heimatstadt Innsbruck und arbeitete dort im Tiroler Volkskundemuseum als Trachtenmalerin. Um ihr Studium fortzuführen und sich möglichst vielfältig weiterzubilden, ging sie 1944 an die Pariser Académie André Lhote und an die École de la Grande Chaumière, wobei die Arbeiten aus dieser Zeit bedauerlicherweise durch die Besatzungssoldaten 1945 in München zerstört wurden.
Seit 1945 verbindet Gerhild Diesner eine enge Freundschaft mit Paul Flora, Werner Scholz und Bodo Kampmann, den sie kurz darauf heiratete und mit ihm zwei Kinder bekam. Seit 1955 führten Diesner zahlreiche Studienaufenthalte durch ganz Europa, wobei sie sich bevorzugt in England, Portugal und Italien aufhielt. Im Jahre 1994, ein Jahr vor ihrem Tod, wurde ihr der Professorentitel verliehen.
Im künstlerischen Schaffen Gerhild Diesners finden sich immer wieder Anklänge der frühen französischen Moderne Van Goghs, Gauguin und Matisse wieder. Besonders die Natur- und Landschaftsdarstellungen faszinierten sie, ihre Bilder wirken sowohl klar wie raffiniert und strahlen eine helle Leichtigkeit aus.Innsbruck 1915 - 1995 Innsbruck
