Carl Moll picturesquely captures the atmosphere of a warm spring day in Vienna’s Schönbrunner Allee, filled with light and colour, in a square picture format. The viewer’s gaze is drawn into the depths of a bright clearing by the extreme vanishing perspective of the avenue of trees, while the horse-drawn carriage moves forward in the opposite direction. The sunlight filters through the luxuriant green canopy of tree foliage with a multilayered scattering of its rays, enlivening the park landscape with a shimmering interplay of light and shadow.
