Provenance
From the estate of Gustav Paul (1859 Proßnitz - 1935 Vienna), a Czech immunologist and serotherapist. Paul's trial, a classic method for diagnosing real smallpox, is named after him. The crucifix was a gift to him in recognition of his work.
