What are online auctions?

In an online auction, also known as a timed auction, bidding is open for a set period of time. Bids can be placed until the auction ends. There is no auctioneer present. Bidding takes place directly via our website or app.

The catalogue is published online approximately ten days before the auction date, at which point bidding opens: auction.imkinsky.com.

Bid online with ease

• Our online auctions take place entirely online, without an on-site auctioneer. Bids can be conveniently placed via our platform or app at any time during the auction.
• The same auction conditions apply as for our room auctions. Read more about our fees and conditions here.
• Unsold items will be offered at the post-auction sale, subject to a buyer's premium of 35% of the hammer price.

Exhibition

You can view all exhibits in person during the auction period at Palais Kinsky (Freyung 4, 1010 Vienna).

How to participate

1. Browse objects: All exhibits can be browsed online without creating an account.
2. Create an account: If you wish to bid, you will need to register on our auction platform or in the "Kinsky Auctions" app (available on Android and iOS). All you need is an email address and a password of your choice. You can also participate in the auction via our partner platforms if you already have an account with Lot-Tissimo, The Saleroom or Live-Auctioneers.
3. Register for the auction: Once you are logged in, simply click 'Register to Bid' in the relevant auction. We will then review your registration and activate your account.
4. Confirm your identity: If you are not yet a client of ours, please send a copy of your identity document to office@imkinsky.com. You will only be able to participate once this confirmation has been received.
5. Await activation. Once your registration has been confirmed, you will receive an email. You can check your activation status at any time in the app or browser.
6. Place a bid.

How to place a bid

• The starting price is the minimum bid. It is not possible to place bids below this.
• Bidding increments are predetermined. However, you can set a maximum bid, which is the highest amount you are willing to pay. The system will automatically increase your bid, but only if another bidder becomes active. Your maximum bid remains invisible to others.
• A successfully placed bid is displayed in green to indicate that you are currently the highest bidder. If you are outbid, you will receive an automatic notification. You cannot outbid yourself. You can view your bids at any time in your account.
• If you are successful, the items you have won will appear in your account. You will also receive an email notification.
• Please note that bids placed are binding and generally cannot be withdrawn. If you have any questions, please email office@imkinsky.com.

End of auction

Lots close one after another at their stated times. There is always a 30-second interval between consecutive lots, which allows enough time to prepare for the next one after the hammer falls.

If a bid is received within three minutes of a lot closing, the bidding time for that lot is automatically extended by three minutes. This ensures that all interested parties have the opportunity to respond in time and place a higher bid. The highest bid at the time of closing receives the hammer.

Technical notes

For smooth participation, we recommend the following:

• a stable internet connection
• avoiding VPN or corporate network access where possible
• refreshing the page if delays occur
• having a second device to hand, ideally with a separate internet connection
• Our platform runs on current browsers and common devices (Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android).
• If you forget your password, you can reset it in the login window and a link will be sent to you via email
