The Morgan Library's inventory catalogue lists several sheets from the Michael Mayr Collection as works by Bernardo Bellotto. Particularly comparable to the sheets presented here (cat. no. 1414–1419) are the drawings ‘Left side of a palace hall with a double staircase’ (23.5 x 38.8 cm, inv. no. 1982.75.68) and ‘Right half of a hall in a Roman palace’ (30 x 24.3 cm, 1982.75.69). The catalogue raisonné published in 1972 also devotes an entire chapter to several sheets originally from the Mayr Collection, as some of them are marked ‘CANALETI’. According to tradition, the painter Lorenzo Sacchetti (1759–1836) is said to have brought the works to Vienna. However, the author points to the difficulty of researching this matter and leaves the final attribution open (comp. Stefan Kozakiewicz, Bernardo Bellotto genannt Canaletto. Volume II, Recklinghausen 1972, pp. 515–517, illus. no. Z 511–515).
